A story beyond passion
This story begins with a book about Africa.
One of those coincidences in life made the Elche marriage of José Abad and Mari Carmen Chazarra read it in 2004 and met its author, a Kenyan writer who brought them closer to the reality of their land, through a relationship told in the first person.
In the summer of 2006, José and Mari Carmen fly to Nairobi, with the aim of getting to know the town of Amakura and the way of life of its people.
On the ground, marriage understands that something has to be done so that these people, lacking all resources, can move forward. Undoubtedly, the best way is for them to do it with their own capacity and as a result of their work.
When they return to Elche they decide that it is a lot of work for only four hands, so José and Mari Carmen undertake the creation of an NGO (Non-Governmental Development Organization).
The organization would be called Tushirikiane, which in Swahili, the native Kenyan language, means "we help each other".
Thereafter, Tushirikiane is officially incorporated in Elche on 12 September 2006.
